During this breakfast, our plan is to unveil the mysticism around systematic strategies as well as to share the latest news from our end. We will start showing the similarities between (quant) investing and sports, to be followed by looking at AQR’s stock selection model (to show that quant investing can be a crystal box), and we will end with an update on our house and strategies.

Training Seminar on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU

Calle del Rey Francisco, 4, Madrid, España

The training is part of the project ‘EU Charter of Fundamental rights: Awareness raising and Instruments to promote a culture of Rights’ (FAIR). This project is led by the Chair of Refugees and Forced Migrants within the University Institute of Migration Studies (IUEM) of the Comillas Pontifical University and co-funded by the European Union, through the CERV programme.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness and promote the use of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in EU Member States, through understanding the obstacles to the use of the Charter at national level, as well as good practices in its application. We assessed awareness and use of the Charter through an online survey, two focus groups with representatives of civil society and practitioners, and a national seminar. These phases have been carried out in all countries of the Consortium: Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Belgium, Croatia and Slovenia. Due to the fact that the previous phases of the project have revealed a great lack of knowledge about the use of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union by the administration of justice and various human rights defenders, it is proposed to carry out specific training aimed at these agents. This initiative aims to strengthen their competences and ensure a more effective application of the principles and rights enshrined in the Charter, thus promoting greater protection and respect for fundamental rights in the exercise of their functions.

Agenda:

Opening by FAIR project members (10:00h-10:10h)

Adam Dubin: Assistant Professor of Law & Director of the Masters in Internacional and European Business Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas

Raquel Verdasco: PhD Candidate at the Chair on Refugees and Forced Migrants (Universidad Pontificia Comillas).

Training on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (10:10h - 12:00h)

Ignacio Ulloa (10:20h-12:00h) : has been a Judge at the General Court of the European Union (2013-2019). He currently heads the cabinet of the President of the Spanish Constitutional Court. A career prosecutor and judge, he has also been Secretary of State for Security. At the European level, his work as Deputy Director of the European Union Integrated Rule of Law Mission for Iraq (EUJUST LEX) stands out. He has also been an expert in the field of rule of law and security sector reform for the Council of the European Union and a project auditor in the field of criminal justice and fundamental rights for the European Commission. A graduate in law from the Complutense University of Madrid, he was a lawyer at the Constitutional Court. He is a regular guest lecturer and speaker at national and international specialised forums on matters related to European jurisdiction.
